Hey ya'll, well, it's about time to share a bit more on what's been going on
behind the scenes here at savvy daddy. We launched Savvy Daddy in April really as a quick-and-dirty beta test to see if there was an appetite out there for a site geared towards guys who happen to be great dads. And boy did we find out that there is indeed.
First of all, it's been totally awesome to get to know you online and share
a little bit about the fatherhood journey. Here are some of the things
that I've heard/read recently:
"I didn't realize there were so many dads out there who are as gung-ho as
I am about raising great kids."
"I often wonder if I'm spending enough time - quality and quantity - with
my kids"
"Becoming a teenage dad wasn't really part of the plan, but I'm thankful
everyday for my family."
"Being a single father for the past 6 years has been challenging and
extremely rewarding at the same time."
"I found the site through Facebook. My boss actually forwarded it to me."
"How come moms have all these sites, but dads did not? It's about
time!"
"Nothing beats reading to them before bed"
"I want to be my kid's hero"
I think there has been a quiet revolution going on where our generation of
fathers are as involved or arguably even more so than ever before. Last
year, Time,
Newsweek, and
WSJ
all did articles on "the new fatherhood." People seem to be noticing. We have an unbelievable fan
base on facebook (almost 4,000 fans now).
The local press came out to do an interview (and take cute pictures of
my tot). And it just so happened that
this also caught the eye of an angel investor group, who has essentially agreed
to help us to take savvydaddy.com to the next level (and hopefully, the next, and the
next...). So, in the next few weeks and months, you'll be seeing some more changes
roll through, followed up a complete relaunch of the savvy daddy site by year
end.
In the meantime, here are a few ways for you to get involved:
- I definitely see lots of areas for improvement on the current site
-honestly, I probably got about as much wrong as I got right in our current
beta version. Can you take this quick web survey?
A lucky respondent will win $100. This will also help us make the new
savvy daddy as relevant and compelling for you as possible.
- Within the new site, you'll be able to make some money by producing
content and building a great community/site (after all, us guys like to build
stuff, right?). And I've realized that
all dads have expertise/passion in different areas, and how great would it be
if we could learn from one another? Clueless about helping our kid play
to trumpet? Get some tips from a dad trumpet player. No idea what's
wrong with that leaky shower head? Handydads abound and can offer up ideas
in a jiffy. First time coaching little league and surprised at the
"intensity" of the other parents?
Seasoned coaches are here for some sage advice. If you are interested in sharing your
expertise & producing content, please do email me with the topics areas
that you would be most excited about (tony at savvydaddy dot com). As we grow as a community, there will be more
and more ways for you to learn, contribute, and make some money on the side.
- For other great ways to get involved, check out my previous post on the
mission of savvy daddy.
