Anyone got any experience with work from home opprotunities?

Hey all,
This is a general shout out to see if anyone has any experience with working from home opportunities. I know the major ones to avoid are the ones where you have to deposit money into your account and then pay back out, building things that really seem to have no purpose that requires you to purchase a "starter kit", or any opportunity that promises an exorbitant salary with minimal amount of work. But some of the ones out there seem actually legit.
My wife received a flyer for a opportunity with her care gift from the hospital. Its for medical transcription I believe. Judging by the flyer it looked fairly ledgit so my wife checked into it. Basically using a home computer and internet connection bills are entered for different medical practices such as doctor’s offices and dentists. Commissioned based obviously and if you know how to type and work 40 hrs a week a 40k salary is achievable. Sounds great right? Then we find out that there is a $1,200.00 fee for the necessary training to do this and a big warning siren went off in my head. Now I am all for getting certifications and what not, but I don't want to get roped into spending that kind of money on something that will produce no fruit.
So does anyone out there know of a work from home program that is working out well for them?
Anyone know of a good resource that we can research these opportunities?
Or is there a good resource to inform us of which ones to avoid?

Re: Anyone got any experience with work from home ...
You're absolutely right in that the internet is a minefield of scams! My mantra is if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. As always, succeeding in working at home in any business will require patience, passion and persistence. It is possible to succeed and make good money online, but usually by selling/promoting your own product/service, not someone else's :)

This is really interesting and I think that there will be a lot of people who will be interested in this area. Maybe you can post here some extra information..it will certainly be useful :D

If you search well enough you'll find something that fits, that's what I learned from the experience. I found this work at home moms, it helped us me and my wife since she got her job this way. You should check it and see what's in there for you.

Medical transcription is not just legitimate, but also one of the most reliable work from home options. That being said, $1,200.00 does sound like a lot of money to get trained in the field. If your wife is interested in exploring this opportunity, then she can consider online medical transcription training programs. Such programs are not only more flexible, but a lot more affordable.
Another thing I wanted to point out is that medical transcription is not just about typing out doctor dictations on a word processor. It’s much more complex than that and involves understanding and interpreting clinical jargon; spotting and rectifying inaccuracies and grammatical errors; and formatting the text in industry-standard styles.
Without proper training or experience, it’s going to be extremely tough to perform this job!

Technology is opening up new opportunities for parents and others who want to work at home. Finding and landing legitimate, profitable work still isn't easy, but here are a few venues to try:
After the birth of her daughter, Carrie Opara knew she didn't want to return to her old job as a mental-health counselor. But finding legitimate work she could do at home was no small feat.
She tried a multilevel marketing plan and wound up in debt. She looked on the Internet and found plenty of scams. Finally, she heard about LiveOps, a Palo Alto, Calif., call center that hired people to work out of their own homes.
Within two years, she was earning about $2,000 a month working 30 to 35 hours a week from her home in Columbia, Md. -- about what she'd made previously as a counselor. Her shifts can be as short as 30 minutes, although she typically works five-hour blocks while her 6-year-old is in school, plus some nights and weekends when her husband, a certified public accountant, can take over child care.
Opara said she still faces the challenges familiar to every working parent: how to work enough hours, spend enough quality time with her family "and still figure out how I'm going to clean my house, make dinner and do the grocery shopping." Not having to commute or pay for child care, however, are big bonuses.

many children enjoy spinning in circles because it provides a lot of sensory input. It's perfectly harmless, but if you want to discourage it in public, try giving your son other outlets to get that input. Offer him a strongly scented piece of fruit to chew on, a sucker or chewy candy to occupy his mouth. You can also offer him strong bear hugs, gentle squeezes on the arms and legs and/or scratch his back. If his still hell bent on seeking input, you can set up a safe place for him to do so. We have bean bag chairs that we allow our son to dive on when he needs a little more input. It gives him what he needs, while keeping him from climbing on the leather furniture.

Even Craigslist has posted warnings about "work from home" opportunities. They try to steal your identity/address.

Re: Anyone got any experience with work from home opprotunities?
All good suggestions you have received. Except, don't rule out network marketing. True, it's not for everybody. But if you ask the right questions and do some homework, you'll find that some are truly legit. For example, Amway is probably one of the most difficult ones to have any success with, but people love it. You have to really work it though. A better example is Tahitian Noni. 4th fastest growing company behind Google, Federal Express, and Intel. You just have to do some research. But for minimal startup costs of actually owning your own business, you can't beat it. Keep in mind, if a true "home business" is going to be free, you'll likely get what you put into it. Nothing. If there is a slight investment that might put a little hit on your pocket, you will likely work at it a little more to make it work. If you want an example of what a little effort can get you, check out my link above. If not, check into some others. But nothing is free if you are in business for yourself. Good luck!
Re: Anyone got any experience with work from home opprotunities?
Yes. I currently work from home and enjoy it thoroughly. I recently looked into other WFH opportunities and found that any ops that involve a fee are bogus. Larger legit companies are offering more work from home ops though. It allows them to reduce energy costs. I would look into "inside sales" positions and ask if work from home is an option.

The legit ones are good, but they're never as easy as it first sounds. They kinda rope you in with their dramatic statements, but then as you dig more into it, you see the fine print: these start-up fees. or maybe it's commission-based only. Either way, you have to put in a lot of time and/or money to get things going. If it were that easy, everyone would do it.
