too many pictures? and vanity?

tony's picture

Recently, I've been showing my tot lots of pictures that I've taken over the last 2 years (~2,000 or so!). While it's kinda cute that he points to himself and says "me-me" and he's been able to recognize most of his extended family and friends, I've been starting to wonder... with all these pictures of him everywhere in our photo albums and around the house, does this reinforce his toddler idea that he's the center of the world? I guess there's no harm in that for now, but... It's just so easy to take pictures, and I wonder what that'll end up doing in the long run... someone tell me if I'm being paranoid...

smile, you're on Savvy Daddy...

we try, almost on a weekly basis, to capture our little ones on film...maggie, 2 1/2 has the majority of the pix, while Jordan, 6 months, will spend her teen years in angst because we have way more pix of her older sister...

i actually feel sorry for my video camera,too...we spent the money and rarely use it...the time it will take to edit that film scares me to death :)

my guess is both kids will survive, each will just hold its own grudges against us---Jordan's WILL be the picture grudge- and Maggie's will be something else------but then just remember to tell your kids---"it's ok, just remember to do the same to your kids ;))

I don't think that photos are the problem; if its your first there is NO other way for this to happen. You will have tons of photos of your first.

The problem is how do you keep up?

We tool gobs of photos of Amelia (who is turning 5 next month). My second, Nolan, no so many. I have hours of video of Amelia too, almost none of Nolan.

Both of them think they are the center of the universe.

I actually feel bad that Nolan doesn't have as many -- but I sorta solved that by letting my hard-drive crash without a back up.

So the take away, back up your hard drive.

backups!

yes! Photos are priceless, and a drive failure and you you can lose everything. Sorry to hear this happened to you. :(

I highly recommend using a remote backup service like Amazon S3/JungleDisk, which I backup 35GB + of photos to and it only costs me around $8/month:

This way even a tragic computer problem (fire, flood, etc.) and all your priceless photos are safe and secure.

too much paranoia?

Your little man will likely think he is the center of the world till three. Kids did even before cameras! But the good thing is that he has a daddy who wants him to care about others. That takes care of a lot. Keep taking the photos!
