YOU can help me choose a name for my new baby boy!

Why am I asking a bunch of strangers to help name my first born?
Well, for starters...I want the name to be a surprise to everyone
that I DO know. Also, we were settled on one name for about 6 mos., and
now here we are 2 days away from delivery (scheduled C-section) and
we're having second thoughts. Here are the finalists:
1) Mason Blue Lawrie- This was THE name that we loved for 6 mos.
Mason is a good strong name, bordering on pretentious but not quite, in
our opinion. The middle name "Blue" really has no personal meaning...we
just think it's neat and under-utilized.
2) Grant Daniel Lawrie- Grant...another good strong name, and close
to my heart due to it's Scottish origin. Daniel is, of course, near
& dear as well since that is my first name.
I appreciate any and all feedback.
Thanks for your help fellas.

Grant Daniel it is!
Thanks for you help everyone. Although, once we saw our little boy, there was no doubt that was a "Grant"!
He's 4 weeks old now, he & Mom are happy & healthy and life is wonderful!
GO BUX!!!
Interesting...
Funny...I expected that the men of SavvyDaddy would be partial to GD since it's a little more traditional, and maybe less "stuffy" than MB. So far you've proven me wrong.
On the flipside, I'm getting tons of support for GD on another site that is jam-packed with ladies.
Thanks again and again for the feedback. You all know how important this is, and you've given me a lot to think about.
GO BUX!!!
Names with a meaning
I personally like "ancient" names.
My wife and I don't know what we're having (today is our due date, so the wait might not last too much longer), so we have names for both a boy and a girl.
For a boy we chose Alexander (Defender of Human Kind), my middle name, and Nicholas (Victory of the People), my late grand father's name.
For a girl the choices are Sophia (Knowledge), a favorite of both my wife and myself, and Alicia (Truth), my sister's name.
I'd go for the second option for two main reasons, Grant is a grant name and Daniel is your own middle name and I wouldn't miss the opportunity of sharing my own name with my son.
Just my two cents.
Best luck!
Names with history
For my three kids, we used a family name for the middle names (my dad's name, my mom's name, and my middle daughter has two middle names: my grandmother and my wife's mother's name). I tend toward the second one you suggested, since it contains your own name as his middle name. I like that my kids will be able to point to something meaningful in their own names. We also tried to name the kids in a way that they could use their middle name as their first if they ended up hating their first names, as well as having a first name that could be shortened to a good solid nickname if they wanted. In the end, I think you should consider the value of a name that'll shock everyone you know versus the fact that your kid will be saddled with that name for a long long time to come, well after the joke has worn off. I do think I'm in the minority when it comes to naming: I prefer more classic names (some would say boring), but I think most people nowadays prefer more creative names. I guess in the end, the name is a reflection of the personality of your family.
Re: Names with History
Thx omegapoint, I appreciate the honest feedback. My intent is not to shock anyone nor is there any joking involved. I take the naming of my first born very seriously and a lot of thought has gone into it (probably everyday since we found out he was coming!)
I too appreciate a name with solid history and relevance; Grant Daniel was my idea while Mason Blue was probably more my wife's. However, there is something to be said for originality and individualality.
Still undecided...
My vote for Mason
My second son is named Mason so I am partial to it. I love Blue for the middle name! I think coming up with the name is one of the best parts of having children.
Congrats on being a Dad! Oh, and good luck (you'll need it with boys).
Go Blue!
I'm forever scarred by this guy I knew who screamed (and I mean, screamed) "Go Blue!" every time the word "Michigan" was used in a sentence. Besides that, I do like the name - I equate Blue with strong and calm.
Blue?
haha, looking at your avatar, do you want "blue" as your son's middle name? :-) he might get confused whenever tsun yells 'go blue'... what about bucks? :-P haha... j/k... mason blue sounds great!
Blue/ Buckeyes
Haha...yes I have considered that I may need to live with the Michigan connotation...and just now realized that the middle name Blue might coherce my son into becoming a UM fan. Unfortunately, my wife is a Sooner so she will not accept this as an excuse.
In the end I still love the name (and the color) and agree with TonyChen that it evokes strong & calm.
GO BUX!!!
p.s. You may be wondering why I'm writing this AFTER the scheduled c-section. Well the amnio came back immature so our boy needs to cook a bit longer! We'll give it another GO this friday.
p.p.s. chibucks-- OSU grad??

yes i am... but campus has changed quite a bit since i was there. :-)
Re: names
My wife and I considered Mason at one time but someone asked "like the mason jars?" and so we moved on from that name. Our son's name is actually Boston Parker (no rhyme or reason why we chose it, we just liked it). I personally like Gavin Allen (or Michael as a middle name) but with my last name being a 'Y' the initials would have been G.A.Y. :) Anywho, I do like the middle name 'Blue', just not too crazy about the first (personal reasons only). Here are some of the few that I do like though... Tucker, Lance, Gavin, Jack and Vern (ok ok so that one was a joke).
Enjoy your time with the birth and try to remember all that goes one because time flies by.

Mason Blue. That name is
Mason Blue. That name is dynamite! The other one is nice, but Mason Blue is like BAM! strong boy name, destined for greatness.
here's my faves
We just had a son, Ethan Joel (and no, I'm not a huge Coen brothers fan), but I'll suggest some names that never made it to the birth certificate, but nonetheless, good names:
- Gabe (Gabriel)
- Javon
- Cole
- Hunter
Good luck, and let us know how the C-section goes.
