tips for new dads

tony's picture

I continue to get emails from new fathers that basically all ask: what is your advice?  So, let me open it up here.  What 1 or 2 key tips would you share with a new dad?  What did you wish you knew when you first started out?

Re: tips for new dads

find some older dads who have kids that rock and talk to them as much as possible. These guys have so much wisdom from all the ups and downs they've been through. Even though today's world is a lot different than even 10 years ago, kids are kids, and they've seen it all. When I talk to them about some "big" issue I'm having at the moment (junior won't sleep in his own bed), they help me see that "this too will pass".

hey new dads! this is small thing, but change your computer passwords to be something you can type with one hand. you'll be holding the baby & on the computer more than you think!

Re: tips for new dads

I've got 3 teenagers now, and man do those years go by fast. My advice: enjoy the moment. Everyone tells you that the time flies, and it really does.

Your wife will probably act like she hates you at some points, and it is more than likely not your fault.
