What drives our parenting is exactly what you said about doing differently, more, or better, than of how our parents raised us. But it's only insights that you can see now in the present moment, reflecting back on what you think your parents did right or wrong. The style of parenting will flip generation to generation, for example if your parents were overly strict with you, then the tendency will be to be easy with your children. When your children have their own the tendency will be to be strict because they will have a point of view of needing discipline in their lives.
