Eczema meds

Mark2x2's picture

My 2 year old twin boys have had problems with eczema since 6 months or so.

Our pediatrician said they couldn't use Elidel until they were 1 yr old, so it had to be cortisone creams until then. We found that they were both effective with regular use, the key being regular use. If we skipped a day, the affected areas became much worse.

We were lucky in that our boys didn't scratch a whole lot to begin with, but we did have 1 round of antibiotics because some areas around the mouth were becoming infected (it was hard to control with all the drooling from teething and the scratching.)

We limited baths to 2x/week (which was a horrific thought to both sets of grandparents, but we were looking out for our boys, not trying to make our parents feel better.)

At 2 yrs old the eczema continues and our doc thinks we will deal with it for a long time, but it seems to be controlled. We don't use Elidel everyday now, just when we see it flaring up.

My friends who've had children with eczema have also said positive things about Elidel.

I personally deal with eczema, but it's not bad for me and I just use an over the counter moisturizer on the spots. I also have bad allergies as do my siblings, so my boys are just dealing with bad genes as far as this stuff goes. We have not pursued allergy testing for the boys yet, but have tried to introduce foods one at a time and watch for allergies. We've only possibly identified one thing (tomatoes, and even that we're not sure if it's true for fresh tomatoes or just preservatives used in tomato sauces.)

Hope you find something that works for your daughter.
