My two sons both had (have) eczema. The primary cause turned out to be allergies. Both came up allergic to eggs (though oldest, 3 yrs now comes up clean on scratch tests). They both also had other food allergies (dairy, some grains).
My youngest (16 mon) has pretty much been ezcema free since we cut eggs and diary from his and mom's diet.
My oldest gets it even w/the food allergens removed. But he is also starting to develop more environmental allergens as well.
The things that worked best were steroid creams and Eladel. We tried just about every over the counter solution w/minimal effect. I don't recall when we started the creams on my sons, but i think it was after 12 months.
